Welcome to Married in the Mourning! My name is Alli, and this is my little reflection on life.

A little about me and Married in the Mourning:

I lost my brother Zach Sobiech when he was 18 and I was 22, ten days before my wedding. Throughout my life, loss has always been punctuated by joy, and though it’s been a sometimes painful road, the lesson I always come back to is that suffering matters, and my blog Married in the Mourning was born.

Before Zach died of bone cancer, he wrote a song called “Clouds” to say goodbye to all of us, and my life completely changed. His song and our My Last Days documentary went viral, my mom wrote a book called Fly a Little Higher and now,  I’m figuring out where I fit into all of it.

Married in the Mourning is just a little piece of the internet where I talk in part about finding joy in suffering and reflect on being a relatively young (age 26) Catholic working mom.

Some other things about me:

Dorothy Day is a huge inspiration for me.

I work at a nonprofit called Children’s Cancer Research Fund as a marketing and communications coordinator.

This photo pretty much sums up my favorite people and books/movies:

My son, Finn, or should I say Samwise?
